PURPOSE:To produce an immobilized enzyme having high enzymatic activity in high immobilization ratio, by freeze-dring a swollen oxide of a polysaccharide, and reacting the obtained powder with an enzyme is a buffer solution. CONSTITUTION:A polysaccharide having at least two adjacent hydroxyl groups in the structural unit is oxidized by a conventional method, and the obtained polysaccharide having aldehyde group is dispersed in water, heated at about 40-80 deg.C to attain nearly the maximum swelling degree, and freeze-dried to obtain powder. The powder is made to react with an enzyme such as urease, catalase, lipase, etc. in a buffer solution of about 4-10pH at about 0-5 deg.C.
