The invention relates to a device for loosening the earth along a cable which is laid in the ground (cable clearance apparatus). Owing to the fact that a rotating ring on the front part of the apparatus body rotates in the winding direction of the neutral wires, the ends of broken wires are wound onto the cable. A helical groove which is incorporated into the end of the rotating ring and whose mouth extends beyond a stationary cutting plate runs back on one side of the ring, at an angle which is of approximately the same size as, but is less than, the vertical to the movement direction of the apparatus body. The end of the helical groove in one plane runs around approximately at the rear of the stationary cutting surface. Any ends of broken wires which are drawn off the cable are held and are passed back through the groove into a position in which they are held against the stationary cutting surface and are cut off by the force of the helical groove pressing against the cutting surface.
