Improvement of a continuous alcoholysis process

A continuous catalytic process for the alcoholysis of fatty acid glycerides with monohydric alcohols containing 1 to 4 C atoms at elevated temperature, where the monohydric alcohols are mixed with part of the glycerol-containing bottom phase formed during the reaction and this mixture is fed in countercurrent to the fatty acid glycerides or to the ester-containing top phase resulting therefrom, is improved when the monohydric alcohols are first mixed, and reacted, with the ester-containing top phase which leaves the countercurrent reactor before they are mixed with the glycerol-containing bottom phase which is formed in the reaction, and this mixture is then fed to the countercurrent reactor. <IMAGE>
