PURPOSE:To provide a vertical type pickling device which can pickle materials to be pickled, i.e., metallic materials while conveying said materials without prior trimming by providing skids driven by conveyor chains in order to convey the materials after hot rolling in an upright state in the transverse direction thereof. CONSTITUTION:Materials 11 to be pickled are placed on skids 14 and while said materials are conveyed without generating any rolling and sliding at all in the bottom edge part in an upright state, an acid soln. is sprayed 38 to pickle the materials. There is no need for prior trimming of the transverse end of the materials 11 unlike with the conventional roller conveying system, working efficiency and yield are improved. Sealing bodies 42A, 42B, 43A, 43B for preventing gas leakage are further provided along the traveling direction of conveyor chains 16 to a pickling chamber 21 and a tank 40 for recovering the pickling liquid to improve the effect of sucking gas by a fan. Means 46, 46 for regulating bending to prevent the mutual interference of the adjacent skids 14 are provided to the chains 16 to prevent surely the failure of the skids 14.
