Streptomyces expression systems and methods for expressing foreign DNA sequences in Streptomyces characterized by at least one promoter selected from the group consisting of the promoters of Streptomyces aminoglycoside phosphotransferases. These expression systems and methods enable the expression of eukaryotic and viral DNA sequences in Streptomyces and the production of various pharmaceutical, veterinary and industrial products in those hosts.
