PURPOSE:To eliminate the complicated post-treatment, e.g. salting out, recovery of solvents after the reaction, etc. in the copolymerization of vinyl chloride and vinyl acetate, by carrying out the copolymerization in an aqueous medium containing an ethylene oxide adduct of a specific copolymer. CONSTITUTION:(A) Vinyl chloride and (B) vinyl acetate are reacted in an aqueous medium containing (C) an ethylene oxide adduct (pref. the molecular weight is 200-10,000 and the molar number of ethylene oxide added is 1-50) of a styrene-maleic acid copolymer, (D) an oil-soluble polymerization initiator (e.g. benzoyl peroxide), etc., e.g. at 35-75 deg.C. The weight ratio (A)/(B) is 60-95/40-5 and the amounts of (C) and (D) are 0.05-10wt% and 0.01-1.0wt%, respectively, on the basis of the amount of (A)+(B). EFFECT:Excellent in solubility in organic solvents, moldability, water resistance, humidity resistance and chemical resistance. |
