In the case of a phase-gating controller, in which a triac or a thyristor is triggered by means of a pulse transmitter and is connected to the mains as a result of the switching process linked thereto, the pulse width of the turn-on pulse is a function of the instantaneous value of the mains voltage when the turn-on pulse is initiated.
