The nut (5) has a collar (7) projecting at the top, divided by slots (10) into a set of resilient segments (8). The nut has a coil spring (13) enclosing the segments. The force of the spring compresses the segments so that they are bent inwards into contact with the threads of a screw (6), locking the nut. - The slots are V shaped, to ensure that the edges of the segments do not enter into contact with each other. In another designs, the slots are U shaped, or the bottom of each parallel sided slot terminates in a central narrower slot. |
