The information capacity of a magnetostrictive delay line is increased by converting the information to be delayed to non-return-tozero form before entry into the delay line. As described, a source 1 supplies binary data in a form in which a " 1 " is represented by a pulse and a " 0 " by no pulse, the information word 1101 being shown as train A, Fig. 2. This train is applied to a bistable flip-flop 2 to produce a train B which is applied to a magnetostrictive delay line 3, the output C of which is applied to a read-out circuit 4. In the circuit 4 the train C is inverted at 5 and delayed by one pulse time T at 6 to produce output trains D, E which are each applied to peak and base clippers. The outputs of the base clippers are applied to an AND gate 11 and of the peak clippers to a negative AND gate 12 whose output is inverted at 14 and applied, together with the output of the gate 11 to an OR gate 13 whose output is sampled at 15 under the control of a clock source 16 operating at the pulse periodicity T to produce a final output Q representing the delayed original input A. |
