PURPOSE:To attain high resolution with large area by providing a numeral converting section of X, Y coordinate values and a data register storage section so as to change the position and resolution of the area possible for designation. CONSTITUTION:A coordinate designation device control section consists of a position detection section 6, X, Y coordinate registers 7, 8, a numeral converting secion 13, and a data register storage section 16 or the like, and converts a numeral from the position detector 6 so as to form X, Y coordinate values. The designated area of the coordinate designating device corresponds to the selection region in all regions and coordinates x, y designated on the entire region are converted into x=dxXpy+ax, y=dyXpy+ay by using coordinates of the origin, dot numbers dx, dy on the entire region per each division and designated positions px, py on the coordinate designating device. The coordinate designation is attained for large area with high resolution by using the coordinate designating device with low resolution and small region.
