PURPOSE:To make quick rewrite possible by providing an optical information read/write means and a magnetic information read/write means independently of each other for one photomagnetic recording medium. CONSTITUTION:An optical information read/write means 2, which records and reproduces information on a recording medium 1 by the light whose intensity is modulated in accordance with binary information, and a magnetic information read/write means 4 which records and reproduces information on the medium 1 by the magnetic field whose polarity is modulated in accordance with binary information are provided independently of each other. As the result, quick rewrite is possible, and the strength of the magnetic field for magnetic write is reduced if the means 4 is constituted of a modulated magnetic field generating means 4a and an auxiliary light source 4b.
