A fluid kinetic machine for high-temperature operation, having flow-guiding, fixed or rotating toroidal baffles obtains high stability and good flow efficiency which can be produced in a simple manner, by the toroidal baffles having annular breakaway edges (14, 15) and inlet edges (16, 17), which are each arranged stepwise in the flow direction, and whose axial and radial spacings are chosen in such a way that a flow surface (22 or 27, respectively), which has separated at the breakaway edge (14 or 15, respectively) impinges approximately tangentially at the next following inlet edge (16 or 17, respectively), and by the breakaway edges and the inlet edges being formed on sections (18a, 18c and 20) running radially and sections (24 and 19a) running axially, and/or sections running obliquely of planar or simply curved rings. Preferably the fluid kinetic machine designed as a radial machine is provided with an axial booster impeller (7) whose axial vanes (8), via an annular bezel arrangement (11), are linked to the radial vane arrangement (10) and stiffen the latter. <IMAGE>
