In order to avoid disadvantages which arise in the use of individual filters when controlling the contrast of gradation-changing papers and when filtering colour pictures, filter selection discs are mounted rotatably and in an easily exchangeable fashion on the lens of the enlarger. This facilitates quick and convenient change of filter. A high convenience is achieved, in operation for low outlay. A further saving in material can be achieved, in conjunction with a flexible filter assignment matched to the respective conditions, when the filter selection discs are assigned round or rectangular, or possibly framed filters. When three filter selection discs are assigned density filters in the subtractive primary colours together with one white light spot each, any black and white enlarger can be converted to a colour enlarger.
