A lateral-water block is provided in the sleeve region of electrical high-voltage cables having a layered sheath, which lateral-water block consists of aluminium foil strips which run in the longitudinal direction and are arranged distributed on the circumference. In the edge region, these strips overlap like roof tiles and are connected in a sealed manner in the overlapping region.
