In an arrangement for obtaining a constant braking distance irrespective of the initial speed, a signal proportional to the speed is fed to an adder on the one hand directly or by way of an amplifier and on the other hand also by way of an integrator. If this signal exceeds a certain level, a trigger on the output side switches over and activates the braking device. The time delay from triggering of the brake command to activation of the braking device is therefore determined by the signal, proportional to the speed, and its integral. In this way, constant braking distances can be obtained with a very simple construction of the arrangement. The arrangement is preferably designed as an electronic circuit, operation amplifiers being used as amplifying element, as integration element and as trigger element.
