PURPOSE:To produce the titled polymer low in shrinkage during cast polymerization and having low dispersion and a high refractive index, by polymerizing a specified alicyclic diallyl compound in the presence of a radical polymerization initiator. CONSTITUTION:An alicyclic diallyl compound of the formula [wherein R is H or methyl, A is (CH2)n, and n is 0-3] is obtained by esterifying a dicarboxylic acid obtained by reacting a dibrominated (dimethyl)adamantane with formic acid or vinylidene chloride in the presence of a sulfuric acid catalyst with allyl alcohol or allyl chloride. 0.001-10wt% radical polymerization initiator (e.g., benzoyl peroxide) is added to a monomer mixture comprising 10-100wt% above alicylic diallyl compound and 90-0wt% radical-polymerizable monomer (e.g., methyl methacrylate), and the resulting mixture is cast-polymerized by heating to 40- 120 deg.C or cured by irradiation with ultraviolet rays to obtain a polymer of a refractive index >=1.1,5000.
