CASTING METHOD USING CASTING MATERIAL SUBJECTED TO REFRACTORY COATING

PURPOSE:To form a non-defective casting having no pinhole and cavity defects with a metallic mold or casting material subjected to refractory coating by specifying the total of the free moisture and loss on ignition which is the gaseous component of the coating at a specific rate or below. CONSTITUTION:The total of the free moisture and loss on ignition which is the gaseous component of the refractory coating applied on a metallic mold is regulated to <=1.0%. The pinholes generated by the evaporation of the moisture in the coating and the sepn. and evaporation of water of crystallization owing to pouring heat and the cavity in the casting surface owing to blistering are made non-obstructive in this case to yield a non-defective casting. The free moisture refers to the rate % of loss at 105 deg.CX1.5hr and the loss on ignition refers to the rate % of loss at 950 deg.CX1hr.
