NEW MATERIAL:The compound of formula I (R<1>, R<4> and R<5> are H or alkyl; at least one of R<4> and R<5> is H; R<2> is H, alkyl, aralkyl or cycloalkyl; R<3> is cycloalkyl; the bond including dotted line is single or double bond). EXAMPLE:5-(1-Hydroxy-2-morpholino)ehtyl-8-hydroxycarbostyryl. USE:It has beta-adrenaline receptor stimulation activity, and is useful as a drug such as bronchodilator, peripheral vasodilator, hypotensor, and the like. PREPARATION:The compound of formula I can be produced by reacting the coresponding 1-substituted-8-substituted-carbostyryl or -3,4-dihydrocarbostyryl of formula II with the compound of formula III to obtain the compound of formula IV, reacting the product with the amine of formula HNR<2>R<3>, and reducing the resultant compound of formula V. The compounds of formula IV and formula Vare also novel.
