A method and device for magnetising and/or demagnetising (magnetisation reversal) of tools consisting of ferromagnetic material, especially of screwdriver blades. In this case, a coil (2) is used through which alternating current flows. For magnetisation, the tool is placed on the coil with its axis essentially parallel to the coil axis (A). With the tool touching it, the coil is supplied with alternating current, and the tool is removed from the coil once the alternating current has been cut off. For demagnetisation, the tool is placed on the coil in any orientation with respect to the coil axis (A) and is removed from said coil with the current switched on. The device consists of a coil (2) which can be connected to alternating current without a rectifier, and of an interrupter switch (7) which is arranged in the circuit. <IMAGE>
