<p>Novel sulfonamide derivatives of the formula <CHEM> where E is a bridge of 3 or 4 atoms including 0-2 oxygen, sulfur or nitrogen heteroatoms and at least one carbon atom; G is O, S, NH or NCH3; W is O or S; R is H or CH3; and A is a substituted nono or bicyclic heterocyclic residue, especially a pyrimidine or triazine residue; exhibit potent herbicidal activity; many also exhibit a plant growth regulant effect. The novel compounds may be made by a variety of synthetic routes, e. g. by reacting the appropriate sulfonyl isocyanate or isothiocyanate of formula JSO2NCW with an appropriate heterocyclic amine of formula H@-A. </p> |
