[Also in Division C6] A generally polygonal cross-section container 1, has within it, a mesh 7, e.g. of plastics or metal, which holds a solid culture medium 6 in place after it has first been allowed to solidify with the container horizontal, and a neck 4. The neck 4 may be laterally displaced towards a wall 2<SP>1</SP> to facilitate removal of the culture by, e.g. a rod, Fig. 16 (not shown). The mesh 7 is retained in position by pressure of its ends against the side walls 3. It may extend over the side walls 3 to the wall 2<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 7 (not shown). The mesh 7 may be thermoset in a form which when positioned remains so by expansion against the walls, or it may be held in outwardly projecting vertical furrows (8e), Fig. 12 (not shown), at the corners of the wall 2. The corners opposite the furrows (8e) may be bevelled. In a further modification, an internal transverse ridge (12), Fig. 16 (not shown), is provided at the top edge of the wall 2 to limit the area of spread of the culture medium 6. The surfaces of the wall 2 are perfectly parallel to avoid optical aberrations when viewing the culture.</p> |
