The trisubstd. imidazole derivs. I [R1 = R2 = (un)substd. phenyl, (un)substd. pyridyl; A = lower alkylene; R3 = carboxy, (un)substd. lower alkoxy carbonyl and their pharmacologically permissible salts are prepd. for use as antiphlogistic. Thus, the mixt. of 2.7g 4,4'- dimethoxystilbene diamine and 1.2g dimethyl malonic acid aldehyde monoamide is added to 50 ml nitrobenzene. This mixt. is refluxed 40 mins., via cooling and drying, and then crystalization of the remains gives 2-[4,5-bis-(p-methoxy)imidazole-2-yl -2-methylpropionic acid.
