PURPOSE:To attain a stable original face illuminance regardless of length of an exposure time by shifting in phase a commercial power supply voltage applied to plural fluorescent lights lighting the original face in a facsimile device. CONSTITUTION:The fluorescent lights 1, 2 are arranged symmetrically by clipping an original reading position R on an original 3. Voltages V1, V2 of power supplies (not shown) supplied respectively to the said fluorescent lights 1, 2 have equal amplitude and frequency (50Hz) and a phase difference of 5msec (1/4 period) is given between the V1 and V2. Thus, the variation of the original face illuminance is very small, an output of a solid-state image pickup element is made nearly constant and made stable.
