PURPOSE:An aqueous dispersion of a solid aromatic hydroxy compound having improved solubility in an aqueous medium, obtained by blending the specific solid aromatic hydroxy compound having antibacterial and mildewproofing action with an organic solvent, an emulsifying agent and the aqueous medium. CONSTITUTION:An aqueous dispersion having improved dilution stability consisting of (A) a compound shown by the formula I , II, or III (R and R' are 1-30C- substituted group and alkyl, cycloalkyl, or aryl; X and X' are halogen, or NO2; m is 1-6 integer, n and p are 0-5 integer, 0<m+n+p<=6; Y is lower alkylene; q is 0 or 1; r, s, t, and u are 0-4 integer, 0<=r+t<=4, 0<=s+u<=4; v is 1-8 integer, w and z are 0-7 integer, 0<=u+w+z<=8), (B) an organic solvent having preferably >=100 deg.C boiling point, >=50 deg.C flash point, <=30wt% water solubility (25 deg.C), and >=50wt% solubility of the component a, (C) an emulsifying agent, preferably polyoxyalkylene ether having preferably 12.5-17.5 HLB value, and (D) an aqueous medium.
