PURPOSE:To control exactly casting length and the speed of a platen and to improve quality and yield by providing a detector for measuring directly the stroke and speed of the platen. CONSTITUTION:A control device 7 detects the position and speed of a platen 4 by means of a detector 9 which is coupled by a wire-shaped body 8 to the platen 4. A commander 11 operates relationally the measuring signal of the position and speed from the detector 8 and the set signal for the position and speed from a setter 10. If there is a deviation between the measured values and the set values as a result of said operation, the command signal for correcting the deviation is outputted to a controller 12. The controller 12 inputted with said command signal for correcting the deviation adjusts the opening degree of a flow rate regulating valve 6 or closes said valve so as to eliminate the deviation thereby controlling the casting length and speed of the slab or billet to be formed on the platen 4. |
