PURPOSE:To open the front side of a picture formation material passage at the generation of jam or the like and to remove the picture formation material easily and precisely by passing the picture formation material to be copied through the front side of the picture formation material passage independently of the size of the width. CONSTITUTION:An original having width A1 is set up on a platen glass 17 having width W without modification of the copying magnification so that the front edge of the original coincides with the front edge of the platen glass and then the copying machine is started. A reflected light sensor type original width detector 38 detects the width A1 of the original and a computer 43 calculates the width direction moving distance Z=(W-A1)/2 of the lens 25. Then, only a width direction lens adjusting motor 37 is operated, the lens 25 is moved to this side from the width center surface (a) of the platen glass 17 and positioned at a place separated by (W-A1)/2. Consequently, the image of the original on the depth side edge is formed so as to be made to coincide with the front edge of a drum-like photosensitive body S and the toner image of the drum-like photosensitive body 8 is transferred to paper 6 positioned so that the front edge of the paper 6 is positioned on the front edge of the photosensitive body 8. |
