PURPOSE:To obtain a cathode having excellent characteristics and a prolonged life by packing a foamy metal with a lithium nickel oxide powder before pressing the thus prepared body. CONSTITUTION:After a lithium compound is added to nickel powder, the mixture is subjected to oxidation at hight temperature to produce lithium nickel peroxide which is then packed into a foamy metal before the thus prepared body is pressed. The pressing performed after the packing is specially important and the cathode according to this invention does not exhibit any good characteristics without performing this process. It is preferable that a small quantity of an adhesive be added. It is not necessary to add any other conductive agents and the only compound that is required to be added is a lithium nickel oxide. By the means mentioned above, the strength of the cathode is increased and the cathode is wetted by a fused salt to a smaller degree. Consequently, high-performance power genration can be performed for prolonged hours. Furthermore, the number of the processes for the manufacturing can be widely reduced, thereby enabling the cost of the cathode to be reduced. |
