Method and apparatus for assembling viscous couplings

Various methods and devices are proposed for assembling viscous couplings. In these methods, coupling discs provided alternately with internal toothing and external toothing are taken from a stack magazine by means of a transfer device and inserted into a coupling housing, the mass of each coupling disc being detected by weighing, making it possible to allow for manufacturing tolerances of the coupling discs in the addition of the requisite quantity of viscous fluid. A considerable part of the viscous fluid can, if desired, be introduced into the coupling housing before the insertion of the coupling discs and the set value then achieved with a small addition, or each inserted coupling disc can be coated individually with viscous fluid by the addition of a certain partial quantity. According to the invention, the effect of manufacturing tolerances as regards the coupling housing and the coupling discs is eliminated in all variants. With the methods proposed it is possible for the first time to achieve automated assembly of couplings of this kind. An example of an apparatus according to the invention is shown in Fig. 2. <IMAGE>
