The invention relates to a process for the preparation of esters, some of which are novel, of vinylcyclopropanecarboxylic acid derivatives of the formula

in which X represents a halogen, preferably chlorine or bromine, and R1 represents a geraniol- and citronellol-derived radical, and to insecticides and acaricides containing these compounds as active substances.
