PURPOSE:To obtain a smooth quartz glass plate by simple operation by charging an aqueous soln. of silicic ester into a bag, holding the bag between smooth faces, converting the soln. into gel, heat treating the gel, and calcining it. CONSTITUTION:An aqueous soln. of silicic ester diluted optionally with a diluent is charged into a flexible bag proof against the soln. The bag contg. the soln. is held between two smooth faces and allowed to stand to convert the soln. into platelike gel. This gel is heat treated and calcined to obtain a quartz glass plate. Alcohol is preferably used as the diluent, and a bag made of a polyethylene sheet or vinyl resin can be utilized as the bag. The tickness of the formed silica gel plate can be regulated by attaching spacers to the edges of the smooth faces. |
