A system for effecting pneumatic conveyance of particulate solids to a processing apparatus 13, comprises an upper storage vessel 10 connected to a lower injector vessel 12 via a valve 14b a flexible coupling and an expansion element 14a. The two vessels may be similar and the vessel 12 includes an annular zone of decreasing downward diameter at its lower end into which a supply of gas is injected to form a fluent solids-gas mixture and to maintain the annular zone under a positive pressure relative to the processing apparatus 13. Discharge conduit 20 leads from the bottom of the injector vessel through valve 22 into a mixing unit 24. Gas is supplied through valve 26a to the mixing unit and a mixture of gas and solids is discharged via a pipe 28 to the apparatus 13. Load cells 12b and control instruments 12d, e and f control the gas pressure in the storage vessel to provide for delivery of solids to the apparatus 13 at a predetermined weight rate. <IMAGE> |
