NEW MATERIAL:An indoleacetic acid derivative expressed by formula I [R1 is halogen which may be substituted at 1-3 positions; R2 is H or lower alkyl; X is C(O)O-OC(O)-; R3 is 1-15C alkyl or alkenyl]. EXAMPLE:Butoxycarbonylmethyl ester of ''Indomethacin''. USE:An anti-inflammatory agent, capable of emulsifying fat and reducing side effects of indoleacetic acid, administrable by intravenous and oral routes, and having improved lipid solubility. PREPARATION:A compound of formula II is reacted with a compound of formula III or IV (Y is halogen) in the presence of a solvent, e.g. methylene chloride, to afford the aimed compound of formula I .
