PURPOSE:To perform exactly defectless welding by moving a welding torch in the direction Y of a groove part, comparing the extent of the movement thereof with an average value, positioning the torch at the center in the direction Y then lowering the torch in a direction Z, comparing the extent of the movement thereof with an average value and deciding the position in the direction Z. CONSTITUTION:A welding torch 10 is moved in the direction Y of the groove part of objects 9 to be welded and the contact of the profiling roll 11 of the torch 10 with the objects 9 is detected from the output of a displacement meter sensor 19 corresponding to the width in the groove part is calculated and is compared with the past average value. When the value is smaller than the average value by a specified rate or above, the extent of the movement is corrected and the torch 10 is moved toward the central position in the direction Y of the groove part. The torch 10 is lowered and moved in the direction Z and the contact of the profiling roller 11 with the objects 9 is detected. The extent of descending of the torch 10 is calculated and compared with the past average value. If the result is smaller by a specified rate of below, the extent of ascending of the torch 10 is corrected. The torch 10 is moved upward according to said extent and the welding position of the torch 10 is determined. |
