Thermo-siphon solar heating system - has storage vessel connected to solar collector via flow and return lines passing through common opening in vessel wall

The solar heating system comprises a liquid heat transfer circuit containing a solar collector and a storage vessel (3) (containing a heat exchanger). The flow (22) line (5) from the collector to the vessel and the connection for the return (21) line (8) to the collector pass through a common opening in the wall of the vessel, adjacent to the bottom. The flow line has a heat-insulated portion (7) extending co-axially through the connection (6; 13-20) for the return line. The vessel is placed ata higher level than the collector whilst the outlet end of the flow line (5;7) is at around two thirds of the height of the vessel to provide thermo-siphon circulation of the heat transfer liquid.
