PURPOSE:The titled fibers, obtained by incorporating a polymer which is a rubber-like at ordinary temperature in a specific amount in an acrylonitrile based polymer consisting essentially of acrylonitrile, and having improved strength and reduced fiber damage without causing splitting nor division, etc. on forming into modified cross-section yarns. CONSTITUTION:Fibers containing (A) 80-99pts.wt. acrylonitrile polymer containing >=30wt% acrylonitrile and (B) 20-1pts.wt. polymer, preferably acrylonitrile- butadiene rubber, epichlorohydrin rubber, polyvinyl acetate or ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer, which is rubber-like at ordinary temperature. The polymer (A) containing a halogen-containing monomer contained as a copolymerization component has remarkable effect thereof.
