PURPOSE:To raise the efficiency of printing operations as well as lengthen the life of cell by a method in which the exciting mode of a stepping motor for driving head is switched to 2-2 phase excitation during the printing period and also to 1-2 phase excitation when pressing to a printing paper is released for movement. CONSTITUTION:Command for rotation of a stepping motor 28 is read out of a test memory 68. If the command is printing command, moving amount for one letter is stored in a moving amount register 72, but if the command is line feeding command, corresponding moving amount is stored in the register 72. When the moving amount is larger than a reference value, a high-speed flag register 74 is set, exciting mode in ROM 62 is selected, the step motor 28 is put into 1-2 phase excitation through a drive circuit 84 and at the same time a solenoid 40 is operated through a drive circuit 80 to release the pressing to the printing paper. If there is printing command, the high-speed flag register 74 becomes L, the stepping motor 28 is driven by 2-2 phase excitation for slow-speed movement. The consumption of power can thus be reduced. |
