PURPOSE:To improve the display quality of a liquid crystal display device having electrodes divided to blocks, by providing notch parts in electrodes near inter-block boundaries and reducing gradually these notch parts according as going away from boundaries. CONSTITUTION:Notch parts 17 which are reduced gradually according as going away from dividing parts 16 between upper and lower data electrodes 14 and 15 are provided in data electrodes in parts where common electrodes do not exist. If data electrodes are shifted upward on a screen, blocks of upper data electrodes 14 and blocks of lower data electrodes 15 are shifted relatively to common electrodes 13 upward on the screen. In this case, effective display parts for display due to voltage application are indicated by oblique lines. Since areas of effective display picture elements are reduced in boundary parts of electrode blocks not rapidly but gradually, this reduction is hardly discriminated on the actual screen with the naked eye. |
