Respirator: self-contained and portable artificial respiration apparatus

The invention relates to an apparatus producing artificial respiration. The respirator according to the invention comprises an electric motor 1 combined with a tachometric generator 2. The motor/generator pair is integral with a bracket 5 holding an endless screw 6 whose sleeve 7 is integral with the moving end piece of a bellows 17. The fixed end piece of the bellows is integral with a manifold 18 receiving a chamber for separating the volumes of gas inhaled and exhaled. The motor drives the endless screw via gears 10, 9 and a synchronous belt 12. It is controlled via an electronic circuit allowing adjustment of the frequency of respiration, of the inhalation/exhalation ratio and the pause between the inhalation phase and that of exhalation.
