A device for clamping a press head 1 to the bed 2 of a press having a longitudinal inverted T-slot 3, comprises a cage 11 having means for applying pressure to an upward facing surface or surfaces of the press tool, a longitudinal assembly or member 17 having means adapted to enter lateral portions of the T-slot of the bed, the cage and longitudinal assembly or member having corresponding side openings so disposed that the lower margins 12, 13 of the cage opening(s) stand proud of the opening(s) of the longitudinal assembly or member, the upper margins of the opening(s) of the cage and longitudinal assembly or member being conversely disposed, together with a clamping body or bodies disposed in the openings of the cage and longitudinal assembly or member so as to bear against the lower margin of the cage opening(s) and the upper margin of the opening(s) of the longitudinal assembly or member and means for so displacing the clamping body or bodies as to force the cage downwards and the longitudinal assembly or member upwards and thereby clamp the press tool to the bed of the press. In the arrangement according to Figs. 1 and 3, the longitudinal assembly 17 consists of a pair of bars 17a, 17b interconnected at their ends by cheek plates 18 and positioned between apertured plates 11a, 11b forming the cage 11. Rectangular section rails 21, 22 are connected to the lower ends of the plates 18 to form with them and the bars 17a, an inverted T-section for engagement with the T-slot 3 of the bed. The upper parts of the cage plates 11a, 11b are extended to form flanges 24, 25 which enter a T-section slot 5 of the tool 1. Clamping bodies 20 in the form of rollers 20 disposed within the cage opening are so arranged that the rollers 20 of the lower row rest on the margins 12, 13 of the cage whereas rollers of the upper row contact the bar 17b whereby when pusher bars 28, 29 at the ends of the device are moved towards one another, the rollers 20 push the assembly 17 upwards and the cage 11 downwards. Springs 32 are located between the lower edges of the plates 11a 11b to hold apart the flanges 24, 25 and the rails 21, 22 during insertion of the device into the T-slots 3, 5. Side plates 35, 36 prevent escape of the rollers 20 sideways. Shoes may be interposed between the rollers 20 and the surfaces upon which they bear, Fig. 4 (not shown). In the arrangement according to Fig. 2 (not shown) two devices are assembled end to end, the rails 21, 22 being common to both and the pusher bars being actuated from one end of the assembly by a lever operated toggle linkage. In a further arrangement, Figs. 5-7 (not shown), the rollers 20 are replaced by a single wedge member for each device the pusher bars, in an arrangement corresponding to Fig. 2, being actuated by a lever-operated cam. In the arrangement according to Fig. 8, a cage 71 for rollers 20 includes a single flange 72 for engagement with a press tool 74 and in the arrangement according to Fig. 9 the clamping action exerted on the press tool is applied by a lever 77 pivoted to a cage 78 and bearing at its ends on the tool and bed respectively, the clamping body in this arrangement being a single wedge 55.
