PURPOSE:To prevent a cross modulation between a pilot signal and a modulated audio signal, and to execute tracking control by recording the pilot signal onto a tape in time division. CONSTITUTION:Four kinds of pilot signals are obtained by dividing an output of a clock generator 11 into 1/N1-1/N4 by frequency dividing circuits 12-15, and pilot signals f1, f2, f3 and f4 having four kinds of frequencies are outputted from each frequency dividing circuit. This pilot signal is selected successively by a selector 16. The pilot signal recorded on a tape 7 is reproduced by a head 21, and applied to a mixer 26 through a play back amplifier 25. The mixer 26 is an integrator and extracts a crosstalk component E' of the pilot signal from an adjacent track by integrating a reference pilot signal arrayed successively in a shape of burst, which is an output of an SW18 and a reproducing pilot signal being an output of the play back amplifier 25. As for this crosstalk component B, the frequency is discriminated by a BPF27 and a BPF28, the difference is derived with each other by a differential amplifier 29, and a track shift quantity 37 is obtained.
