PURPOSE:To obtain a device of a uniform positive mode by writing information on all or a part of the surface of a liquid crystal light valve with an irradiation light source which has a wavelength distribution approximating that of a monochromatic light source of a write scanning optical system and scanning a monochromatic light while impressing a voltage to te liquid crystal light valve thereafter. CONSTITUTION:A pair of a flash lamp light source 20 and a reflector 21 are provided in the side of a light absorbing film (in the laser light write side) of a liquid crystal light valve 10. It is necessary to use a light source which generates an intense light in a short time as the flash lamp; and for example, if a xenon flash lamp is used, a light of several joules or more is obtained in <=1ms light emission time. The reflector 21 is provided for giving directivity to the luminous flux of the flash lamp 20, and it is desirable to use a pair of flash lamps for the purpose of making the distribution of the irradiated light to the liquid crystal light valve 10 uniform.
