PURPOSE:To obtain a stable still picture with good S/N and simple constitution by switching a reproduced signal by a video head with a signal delayed by 1 field at a pause position of a video tape selected optionally. CONSTITUTION:An FM signal reproduced by video heads 1, 2 goes to a continuous signal by a switch 20, inputted to a delay circuit 23 via an amplifier 21 and a demodulator 22, and also outputted from a video signal output terminal 28 via a terminal 27-2 of a switch 27. Furthermore, the output of the amplifier 21 is discriminated by an envelope detection circuit 24 and a comparator 25, and when a signal level is larger than level is larger than a reference voltage E of the comparator, an H signal is outputted from the output of the comparator 25 and the switch 27 is thrown to the position as shown in Fig. When the signal level is the reference voltage E or below, an L signal is outputted from the comparator 25 and the switch 27 is thrown to the position of a terminal 27-1 and a signal through the delay circuit 23 is outputted.
