The invention relates to a torsional vibration damper in which an axially displaceable coupling part provided with restriction apertures is arranged in a leak-tight housing which is at least partially filled with damping fluid. In this arrangement, a spring device, preferably designed as a diaphragm spring, is provided on one side of the coupling part and an axial thrust face and a counter thrust face separated by rolling elements are provided on the opposite side. Starting from the rest position of the torsional vibration damper, the axial thrust face extends towards the diaphragm spring both in the direction of tension and in the direction of thrust. On the one hand, this guarantees a simple construction and, on the other hand, freedom from play during the transition from one direction of loading to the other. The rotationally fixed attachment of the coupling part can be effected either via tangential straps or via the diaphragm spring or via an axially elastic but circumferentially rigid diaphragm.
