PURPOSE:To attain the on-chip formation of a vertical scanning circuit on the same substrate as a matrix even with use of an element having small mobility, by controlling the selection timing of said scanning circuit. CONSTITUTION:The signals are supplied to switching elements M11-Mnm so that the selection is performed by a vertical scanning circuit 5 earlier than a desired horizontal period by a prescribed period of time, that is, the fall of a drive pulse is coincident with the termination of a desired horizontal period. Therefore the elements M11-Mnm of each picture element are turned on earlier by a desired horizontal period, e.g., about one horizontal period. Then these elements are put under a satisfactory ON state at a time point of the desired horizontal period. Thus it is possible to turn on the elements satisfactorily when a signal is applied even with an element having small mobility. As a result, the circuit 5 can be formed into an on-chip on the same substrate as a matrix. |
