PURPOSE:To allow a television receiver to be used for multipurposes by forming program signals during a vertical blanking period of a television signal and by providing respective signal processing circuits for a picture signal, character information and a program signal at a receiving side. CONSTITUTION:A transmitting circuit 2 overlaps a character signal Vd or a program signal Vp in a vertical blanking period of a synthesized color television signal at the time of transmitting of a television signal Vf. On the other hand, a television signal processing circuit 13 separates the picture signal Vf, the character information Vd and the program signal Vd from the received color television signal. The picture signal Vf is supplied to the following amplification signal changeover circuit 14. The output signal Vo in which the picture signal Vf is removed can be obtained from the television processing circuit 13. A character signal processing circuit 22 samples the character information Vd from the output signal Vo, and supplies the Vd to the following memory circuit 24. The character information Vd is successively stored in the specific address of the memory circuit 24. When you would like to obtain the picture by the character information Vd, a readout signal Vd' of the memory circuit 24 is supplied to a receiving tube 15 by switching of the amplification signal changeover circuit 14.
