The methods are characterised in that cytochrome- and peroxidase-containing mixtures of substances are used and employed as reagents ready for use for diagnostic purposes. The use of cytochrome as chromogenic substance has the advantage in this case that the mixture of substances is stable and not autoxidisable. Furthermore, the detection sensitivity is unusually high with an extinction coefficient of 40000 per mole of hydrogen peroxide. The reaction time of the detection reaction is very short at 1 to 10 minutes. Finally, the hydrogen peroxide which is produced can be measured specifically and quantitatively by using cytochrome-specific peroxidases; reducing concomitant substances in the biological sample do not interfere.
