PURPOSE:To obtain a photomagnetic recording medium having improved corrosion resistance without spoiling the magnetic characteristic thereof by adding Ni and Cr to an amorphous magnetic alloy consisting of GdTbFe or GdTbFeCo having the axis of easy magnetization in the direction perpendicular to the film plane. CONSTITUTION:A thin photomagnetic recording film formed by adding Ni and Cr to a thin amorphous magnetic alloy film consisting of GdTbFe or GdTbFeCo and having the axis of easy magnetization in the direction perpendicular to the film plane at 0.1-35atom% total atom ratio of Ni and Cr with respect to 100atom% atom ratio of the total thin magnetic alloy film and particularly at 8/2 Ni/Cr ratio is provided on a base plate consisting of glass, metal plastic, etc. The resistance to corrosion by moisture, O2, etc. in the air is made better and the life is made longer than addition of Ni and Cr respectively alone by adding both Ni and Cr to said film. The corrosion resistance is further improved by providing further a protective layer to serve also to prevent reflection, etc. on the thin recording film.
