Device for picking up and setting down loads, characterised by a crosspiece which is supported by means of supporting legs and to the ends of which supporting straps or spars for gripping arms for gripping underneath a load are linked, by guide spars which are to be acted upon by a lifting means, are linked to supporting-strap or spar ends projecting beyond the crosspiece and are connected to one another above the centre area of the crosspiece by a joint, and by a hook, linked to at least one of the guide spars above the centre area of the crosspiece, for releasably gripping underneath a king pin attached to the crosspiece in its centre area.
