PURPOSE:To provide a metallic wire for spinning frame, having high toughness, excellent abrasion resistance, smooth surface and extremely improved corrosion resistance, by applying a titanium carbonitride layer and further a titanium nitride layer to the tooth, etc. by chemical vapor deposition process at a medium temperature. CONSTITUTION:A metallic wire for a carding engine or an air fine spinning frame, made of a hard steel wire or steel alloy wire and furnished with the tooth 2, is subjected to the chemical vapor deposition process usually in a gaseous atmosphere composed mainly of TiCl4, H2, CH4 and N2 at a medium temperature (preferably 700-900 deg.C) to prevent the growth of the crystal grains and the decarbonization of the matrix. At least the surface of the tooth 2 of the metallic wire is covered by the double layers composed of the titanium carbonitride layer 3 and the titanium nitride layer 4 by this process. |
