1533828 Molasses feed block for animals S A DE SANTIS 10 Feb 1977 [18 March 1976 22 July 1976] 05497/77 Heading A2B A hard animal feed block comprises 25-75% molasses, 0.5-10 wt. % hard soap which has been formed in situ and a water absorbent material which absorbs water from the molasses. The soap may be formed from CaO or NaOH and fatty acid, e.g. yellow grease, brown grease or acidulated soap stock, oil or fat. The absorbent may be 0.5-5 wt. % clay, e.g. attapulgite, bentonite or kaolin or at least 20 wt. % natural protein source, e.g. cottonseed, soybean or peanut meal, cell cream, alfalfa, dried blood, or meat, bone or feather meal. Supplementary ingredients include 2-10 wt. % NPN source, e.g. urea, ammonuim salts; 0.5-7 wt. % phosphorus, added as phosphoric acid or phosphates; 1-5 wt. % fat or oil and 0.2-3 wt. % chemical water binding agent, e.g. CaSO 4 hemihydrate, CaCl 2 . Fish materials or oil of capsicum can be added to slow the rate of consumption. The mixed ingredients can be blended at ambient or elevated temperature and set to shape in a mould. |
